Battle for Goodness During the time of WWII, the lives of many Jewish people suffered at the hands of the Nazis, but in The Diary of Anne Frank by Frances Goodrich and Albert Hackett, the story focused on the span of two dangerous years in the lives of eight people in hiding. Those eight people hiding in the secret annex above an office building were the Franks, Van Daans, and Mr. Dussel. Donââ¬â¢t waste time! Our writers will create an original "The Role Of The Diary Anne Frank" essay for you Create order Unfortunately, the corrupt society influenced the residents of the annex and Anne Frank herself negatively, but there were positive influences from the time as well. During the time the families spent hiding in the secret annex, there were favorable and unfavorable actions from the society, the residents, and Anne herself, but that has been a pattern repeated throughout history. Between 1839 and 1945, during World War II, society was both negatively and positively influenced by the surrounding conditions. The text stated, Right here in Amsterdam every day hundreds of Jews disappear They surround a block and search house by house. Children come home from school to find their parents gone. Hundreds are being deported people that you and I know the Hallensteins the Wessels (506). Society in that time had some dishonorable traits, including the fact that Jewish people were taken out of their everyday lives into ghettos or concentration camps. On the other hand, many people in the European society helped Jewish people go into hiding or escape into a safer country. For the Franks, Van Daans, and Mr. Dussel, the heroic people that made their hiding possible were Mr. Kraler and Miep Gies. Society during World War II had both good and evil in it, and those qualities were reflected into the lives of Annes family and friends. Additionally, each of the residents of the secret annex displayed some moral and immoral actions during the two-year hiding span above the office building. On the immoral side, Mr. Van Daan was driven so close to starvation that he made an almost unforgivable choice to steal extra bread from the limited food supply. The text stated, The bread! He was stealing the bread! (534). Nevertheless, positively shown through the dark times in the secret annex when the Franks let Mr. Dussel permanently stay with them in hiding. This act of kindness saved Mr. Dussel from potential dangers from the Green Police, and, most likely, it spared his life for over two years. Despite the horrible actions done by the Franks, Van Daans, and Mr. Dussel, each person responded back by revealing their positive side. Finally, Anne Frank herself bore goodness and evil in her heart, but she was well aware of that, so she did her best to look only for the good. Negatively, Anne always reacted without thinking about the situation, which caused too much conflict for the limited space. In the text, Anne wrote, When he was going on at me I thought sometime Ill give you such a smack that youll fly right up to the ceiling! (508). Eventually, Anne did learn how to calm down her overactive thoughts. Although Anne sometimes would not think before she acted, Anne did have a caring heart, especially for Margot, Annes sister. Anyway the only one I worry about is you. I feel awfully guilty about you, (530). Anne spoke this to her sister because she was afraid she was making Margot upset by growing closer with Peter, which proved that Annes heart only grew with kindness in the secret annex. This proved that, for better or for worse, Anne Frank had positive and negative actions, even though she meant well. World War II was a devastating time for millions of people, which reflected negative actions on society and everyone involved. Nevertheless, the society and the people took a positive stance to fight back against the growing evil. Many people helped out strangers to make sure as many people as possible would survive the tragedies of the time period. From the time the Franks, Van Daans, and Mr. Dussel moved into the secret annex until the time they were taken to concentration camps, the World War II society, the residents in hiding, and Anne Franks personality developed in favorable and unfavorable ways.

Prior to his method on error, Descartes has already proven a pair of foundational beliefs. In meditation one, Descartes proved that he was ââ¬Å"a thinking thingâ⬠and that in order to be a thinking thing, ââ¬Å"I existâ⬠. In mediation three, he proved that God exists due to the fact that in order to have an idea of God, one must already have the idea innately implanted in their mind. Since Descartes is finite he believes that God innately implanted the thought of an infinite perfect being in his mind, so therefore God exists. The concept of where error comes from and why error occurs, arise in meditation four. He begins by claiming that God is not the source of error. Descartes states ââ¬Å"It is impossible for God to ever deceive me, for trickery isâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦Ideas cannot be a source of error, because they take place in our own mind, and no one can prove or challenge that they exist in the external world. In making an idea, one cannot make a mistake or be right about anything because to have an idea of something makes no claim about it being found in some other thing. The idea exists alone in the mind of the person making an idea. Building off the thought of an idea is a judgment. According to Descartes, judgments are applying our ideas to the external world, trying to affirm or deny something as they have an objective reality. He states that judgments are a key component to why we can commit errors. For example to affirm or deny that a certain store has exactly ten people in it would be a presumed judgment on reality. You are not only taking the idea of the amount of people in a store, but trying to apply it to the external world, which can lead to error. By sheer luck you may be correct in some cases, or you may be wrong. It is in making judgments that human beings can error. In meditation three Descartes states ââ¬Å"the principal and most frequent error to be found in judgments consists in the fact that I judge that the i deas which are in me are similar to or in conformity with certain things outside of meâ⬠(Descartes Meditation 3, 36). When ideas that are within the mind are brought

There Are Too Many People? Will We Survive? There are too many people? will we survive? Do you feel that we have the right to enjoy natural beauty? The right to decent, uncrowned shelter? The right to eat healthy food and drink pure water? To breathe clean air and avoid pesticide poisoning? Most people would say everyone has a right to all of these things, but in some areas of the world these rights are not being met. Overpopulation is becoming a bigger concern as the growth rate continues to skyrocket. Overpopulation is sometimes misunderstood or mistaken with other issues. Overpopulation does not deal with crowding, but in fact, density is irrelevant to questions of. What is relevant is carrying capacity. Carrying capacity refers to how much an area can hold having all things at equilibrium, including all plants and animals. An area is overpopulated when its long-term carrying capacity is being degraded by its current occupants. Some people say the earth is not overpopulated since the United States can produce more food and products than are used. That is true in the U.S. Now if you look at it worldwide the products we have are often from other countries. These other countries are often not as well off. These other countries are either in severe poverty or their cities are becoming overcrowded. Although the U.S. is not in trouble at this time, when you look at the whole world you may see a diffe rent picture. Eventually the rest of the world will also have an effect on us. The impact we have on the environment has to do with three factors. The first is the number of people. The more people there are the more resources are used. If too many resources begin to be used they will run out before they get a chance to be replaced. Leaving all plant and animal life with nothing and everything will eventually die off. The rainforests are a good example of this. The second is the amount of resources consumed by the average person. If people become wasteful and don't conserve resources now, the resources that were wasted will not be able to be used in the future. The United States is one of the most wasteful countries there is; I know this because of how much unnecessary stuff I use and throw away. We are more wasteful than necessary. Recycling has helped quite a bit, but the problem has not yet been fixed. The third is the environmental damage caused in the manufacturing of the goods consumed. Manufacturing grows as people demand more manufactured goods. If too much manufacturing takes place many plants and animals begin to suffer. It may not have an impact on us for a while, but after many years pass, the availability of food, water, and shelter will begin to decrease. Overpopulation does not only affect the environment, but also in turn hurts humans. By overpopulating the world it can lead wide spread poverty. As more and more people are on this planet the resources become more and more exhausted. As the human race continues to grow, other plant life and animal life begin to disappear. And the fact is we can't live without the other plant life and animal life. By keeping the population of the world at reasonable numbers; pollution levels, diseases, and resources will be able to be maintained at reasonable levels. All governments can make an effort to help this along by, first of all educating people world wide what problems are caused by overpopulation. Educating the public is a major step toward controlling population. By educating the public they can then make better decisions on how to go about having and raising children and can set there own limitations. To educate the public the U.S. government can get the support of other organizations and set up places worldwide to help slow the growth rate by educating people. Most of all, the people of the world, including you, are the ones who have to sit back and think about the consequences of overpopulating our world and realize that something has to be done. If the government and the people work together at this issue, we could reach

Gun Control Synthsis Paper essays When you mention gun control, many things come to mind. School shooting, the Brady Law, second amendment rights, and kids killing kids, these issues have prompted a controversy over guns and whether they are a menace to society. There are many types of guns and each contributes to crime differently. The smaller more easily concealed weapons, like handguns and sawed off shotguns are most likely to be used in crime. While the larger firearms, rifles, have a slightly lower reported incidence of crime. Crimes reported that involve an assault weapon such as the Uzi is virtually unheard of. Views on the subject of gun control range from one extreme, all guns are bad, to the other extreme that all existing laws should be revoked and every person should own a gun. In the discussion on gun control there are a few points that everyone argues about. Two of the most popular topics on gun control seem to be, do guns contribute to crime, and would tougher gun laws prevent gun fatalities? With all the different subjects discussed within the gun control controversy, the topic of how tougher laws would affect the death rate, associated with firearms, seems to be most common. Dennis Henigan believes that the laws need to be redirected toward better safety features on guns, to prevent some accidental shootings. Henigan also believes that the gun manufacturers should be liable for the lack of safety devices that could prevent accidental shootings. Morgan O. Reynolds and W.W. Caruth III believe, that the laws, proposed for the control of gun crime, would rase the price for purchasing a gun; but do little for preventing crime from being committed with them. According to Woody West, guns are responsible for the deaths of many people, some of which are innocent, but before we make new laws we should try enforcing the scores of laws already enacted, but not enforced. On the far end of the argument against controlling crime through banning gu...

3 More Cases of Misplaced Modifiers 3 More Cases of Misplaced Modifiers 3 More Cases of Misplaced Modifiers By Mark Nichol When sentence elements that provide additional, nonessential information are not positioned in proximity to the word or phrase they directly pertain to, the sentence is often awkward at best and confusing at worst. Each example below demonstrates how misplacing a reference to a year or a point in time may muddle the meaning of a sentence; discussion and revision provide a solution to each problem. 1. He was a part of the first lineup in team history to make the playoffs in 1978. The sentence reads nonsensically as if the lineup was the first to get to the playoffs in a particular year, but the point is that it was the first to do so in the teamââ¬â¢s history; the year of the achievement is identified as an afterthought. To avoid the implication that the particular year is integral to the achievement rather than incidental to it, the year should be set off from the keyword playoffs, and the best place for the phrase ââ¬Å"in 1978â⬠is at the head of the sentence: ââ¬Å"In 1978, he was a part of the first lineup in team history to make the playoffs.â⬠2. It became a second home for Jones in 1995, whose mother died from cancer that same year. The adjective/noun phrase whose mother is associated with Jones, so the two sentence elements should be adjacent and not interrupted. As with the previous example, relocate ââ¬Å"in 1995â⬠as an introductory phrase: ââ¬Å"In 1995, it became a second home for Jones, whose mother died from cancer that same year.â⬠3. A quick search of the vehicle revealed thirty bottles of hard liquor, a case of hard lemonade, a jar of marijuana, and a pile of prescription drugs in one girlââ¬â¢s purse, police said. This sentence implies that all the items were found in the (necessarily massive) purse, but the intended meaning is clear when the modifying phrase ââ¬Å"in one girlââ¬â¢s purseâ⬠is located parenthetically before the final item in the list to specify that that is the only item found in the purse: ââ¬Å"A quick search of the vehicle revealed thirty bottles of hard liquor, a case of hard lemonade, a jar of marijuana, and, in one girlââ¬â¢s purse, a pile of prescription drugs, police said.â⬠Want to improve your English in five minutes a day? NASA's Mission to Asteroid Bennu - Essay Example Basically, the question being asked by the project, that they hope to answer is ââ¬Å"can you go to an asteroid, collect material, and bring it back to earth?â⬠(Algar, Jim ââ¬Å"NASA Gets Go-Ahead To Build Spacecraft for Space Sampling Missionâ⬠)/ This paper will look deeper into the relevance of the mission to Bennu, the current status of the project, and finally, make conclusions about the possible success or failure of the space mission. This will be done by presenting the latest facts about the mission as taken from the latest news and scientific reports / updates related to the 2016 space mission. In order to fully grasp the importance of the mission to Asteroid Bennu, the public must first understand the key mission objectives of the project. All of which are crucial to the continued study of planet and life preservation on Earth. These mission objectives are: Having received financing and support from the government to implement the project, NASA has begun to develop the spacecraft that will be used for this unmanned mission. Known as the Origins, Spectral Interpretation Resource Identification Security Regolith Explorer, OSIRIS REx for short the unmanned explorer was approved at the Mission Design Critical Review at Lockheed Martin Space Systems Company in Ohio this April (Myles, Robert ââ¬Å"NASAs Asteroid Sample Mission Gets Go-Aheadâ⬠). With a planned launch date in the Fall of 2016, the craft is expected to rendezvous with the 493 meter asteroid in 2018. OSIRUS - REx will have 5 onboard instruments meant to help with data and sample collection. A task that is expected to last at least one year. The samples and data will then take a 5 year trip back to earth where NASA will collect the samples and other onboard data for long term experimentation, research, and study well into the 2020s (Myles, Robert ââ¬Å"NASAs Asteroid Sampl e Mission
